RID OR DIE 2
This is the second race of the Palmerston North Fixie Crew. It was a fun 7k ride straight through town.
Went to a local show.
Javier here. I went to see a local band tonight named Ricky Bobby from Palmerston North, NZ. I wanted to make a video just using my Iphone. I think it came out really cool.
First years get initiated
I didn't get the chance to take a video of our initiation last year, partly because I didn't have my phone with me and partly because I was dodging rancid milk bombs the entire way through. But today we finally passed the baton of being "fresh meat" at vet school and took part in initiating the first years today. I think they got off lucky because we were zip-tied together and did a lap around the entire campus before sliding down a makeshift Slip N' Slide covered in horse crap. But it's always done in good fun and it helps bring the class together...
A ride around campus
We took a ride around the main circle road at Massey today. It was a nice ride and a beautiful day.
Wellington Zoo Overnight Trip
We're way late in posting this, sorry about that. Javier and I (along with our Alaskan friend Sara) went on a sleepover trip to the Wellington Zoo. It was an awesome experience and one anyone can have for the price of $35 NZD:
Shortly aftering arriving, we settled in a bit when we got to the room we were going to bunk in. We got the rundown of rules by our tourguide: basically don't do anything stupid and don't get eaten.
We went on a night tour of the zoo which was so much fun! Everyone was asleep for the most part but as part of our animal encounter experience, we were able to hang with the giraffes for a little bit and feed them some browse.
Woke up the next morning to the cries of monkeys right next to our building. We even had a balconey overlooking their enclosure. It was phenomenal to wake up and eat breakfast next to those amazing creatures! Don't worry, we didn't try to feed them...there were plenty of signs showing us what not to do.
We were allowed to run around the zoo by ourselves. And I made some friends.
Their hospital is called "The Nest" where they have an surgical table on display just like DAK. Javier was ready for his turn...
The highlight of the trip for me was our visit to the Zoo's kitchen. Not as big and flashy as the ANC at Disney, but it gets the job done. From what I was told, the keepers make the diets themsevles and the vets are the nutritionist. It made me realize just how lucky our animals are at DAK to have their own full-time ANC staff and Nutritionist. Man, I do miss that place like crazy.
ONE YEAR!!!
Today marks one year that we have been in New Zealand. Wow, that when by fast! Well, only four more years to go :)

Javier's new mohawk + Vibram FiveFingers
Javier decided he wanted a mohawk (again). I think it looks good, what do you guys think?
Yay, our Vibram FiveFingers KomodoSport shoes are here! They're really cool looking and super comfy. Javier had an older model before and he said these are way better. We walked around town with them today and they felt good, though my feet hurt a little bit. That's typical though while you're still getting used to them. Special thanks to Manny for shipping them to us!
